No previous experience is necessary. Sumi-e classes are designed for both beginners and those with experience. Kaoru adapts her teaching to the level of each student, ensuring that everyone can progress according to their skills and previous knowledge.
For Sumi-e classes, you will need rice paper, Sumi-e specific brushes, Indian ink and an ink grinding stone. If you do not have these materials, Kaoru will guide you on where to purchase them, or on some occasions, they may be available to students during the classes.
Each session usually lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. This is enough time to explore new techniques, practice and receive individual feedback from Kaoru. The duration allows students to concentrate on their creative process without rushing, enjoying each stroke.
Sumi-e classes are usually in small groups, with a maximum of 8 to 10 students, to ensure that Kaoru can provide personal attention to each student. This format facilitates individual learning and allows for better guidance in artistic development.
