No, you don't need any previous experience. The classes are designed for both beginners and those with artistic experience. Kaoru Hirose adapts the lessons to the level of each participant, guiding you step by step so that you learn at your own pace.
Basic materials include a Sumi-e brush, black ink, an ink mixing bowl and rice paper. If you do not have these materials, Kaoru Hirose will provide you with a recommended list and options for purchasing them in Berlin or online before the first class.
You will learn the basics of Sumi-e, such as how to use the brush, prepare the ink and create balanced strokes. You will also explore how to capture the essence of natural elements such as flowers, landscapes and animals, applying techniques that encourage concentration and creativity.
